8 Reasons Why you Should Try Period Pants

Reasons to Switch to Period Underwear

Initially when I first heard of period underwear I thought, that’s gross and how do you switch them throughout the day… who would want to sit in an unchanged diaper of blood all day. But as they gained popularity I became curious and decided to give them a try. Initially I came across a pack at M&S which was very cheap so I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I didn’t imagine I would fall in love with period underwear and now I will never go back to disposable solutions, forget the environmental impact but I’ve felt way more comfortable on my period since I’ve switched. My favourite things about them are:

  1. They are so comfortable and you don’t have to panic thinking you’ve left your tampon in too long and are going to get toxic shock or is my tampon leaking and ruining my underwear or clothing

  2. They actually stay dry and you don’t have that uncomfortable pad feeling like you are in a diaper

  3. They do not smell

  4. They are so easy to wash - you can just rinse them when you shower and then throw them in the laundry. They recommend washing on cold and in a wash bag, but I just wash normally after rinsing and hang to dry.

  5. You can get a full nights sleep without worrying about leaking and ruining your sheets!

  6. They save you money as you don’t need to buy period products every month.

  7. They are better for the environment as you aren’t disposing of period products every month

  8. I also love wearing them leading up to your period so I never have those anxiety filled days of will my period start today and completely ruin this outfit.

I would recommend everyone to try them. The one thing I found in my research as a lot of period underwear look like “granny panties” which is not a fun feeling when you are already feeling a bit low.

The M&S ones have this feel but are very effective and cheap so they’re a great option to wear at night.

For the day’s of your period and the day’s leading up to I found the Australian brand Rudie. They make styles that more closely match my normal underwear so it makes wearing them more comfortable.

The styles I have tried are:

Great for days leading up to your period or last days of flow. Get 15% off your Rudie order.

Great for days leading up to your period or last days of flow. Get 15% off your Rudie order.

Great for heavy flow days and nights. Get 15% off your Rudie order.

Great for medium flow days and nights. Get 15% off your Rudie order.

If you are thinking of trying out period underwear I think the least stressful way is to first wear them at home so you can see that they work and feel confident leaving the house in them. I also used to on heavier flow days pair them with a eco friendly tampon to give myself peace of mind.

Everyone’s flow is different so find what works best for you and I am here if you have any questions or need any advice!
